Whitefish Point Light Station, established in 1848, is the oldest active lighthouse on Lake Superior.The original lighthouse was replaced by the present structure in 1861Whitefish Point marks the beginning of a dangerous 80-mile stretch that sailors have termed "Lake Superior's Shipwreck Coast".
